The best thing to do is to keep use the grade of oil for the life of the vehicle.

I think Ford recommends 5W20 for all of their vehicles now.

Look in your owners manual under maintenance. It will give a viscosity range of acceptable oils that you can use. It also has to do with the climate where you live, extreme hot or extreme cold. As far as synthetic oil goes have you ever priced that stuff? You can do four oil changes for the cost of one synthetic oil change

5W20 Motorcraft, Pennzoil. They are the only oils that meet Ford specifications.(Motorcraft is already semi-synthetic) Ford Specs their oil, and it must be hydrockracked. only 3 companies do this, Pennzoil, Conoco and Union 76. Motorcraft will be one of these brands that was bidded out. Use any oil filter but Fram. I recommend WIX or NAPA Gold. Puraltor is a good second choice. I distrust motorcraft filters, some bids are good, some are not, so their quality is inconsistent.
